A royal workstation

Client

Arrival

Year

2019

Location

London, UK

Architect

Jimmy Smith

The challenge:

The Forest & Maker team were challenged to present an idea for a feature workstation to seat 12 people for Arrival’s new head office. Having heard rumours a couple of years previously of an exceptional Cedar of Lebanon tree that had been felled on Crown Estate land we knew exactly where to head.

Provenance:

From a cedar tree felled by the Crown Estate. Belvedere Wood, Windsor Great Park. Coordinates 51°24’19.9″N 0°36’23.4″W. Planted by the Duke of Northumberland in 1760. Felled due to lightening strike.

'The most exceptional Cedar of Lebanon log we have ever seen'

Tom Barnes – Managing Director Vastern.

Unfortunately the tree itself had to be felled due to lightning damage. However, having now been felled by the Grown in Britain certified estate and milled by a Grown in Britain certified mill it has been part of carefully managed forestry management process and will now be utilised in items such as furniture.

Using this timber to create the 6 metre piece offers Arrival the opportunity to provide its London based employees with a real statement piece full of story and provenance. A stunning slice of nature nestled within an otherwise urban dominated environment.

The piece is due for delivery early 2019 so watch this space.
