For this particular restaurant in Ealing, Forest & Maker were challenged with creating 3 separate bar and serving tops. By cutting thousands of chopsticks into smaller pieces, the team were able to cast and mould an extremely strong surface with keeping a high density of bamboo chopsticks.
STAC architecture were challenged by the growing restaurant chain Tonkotsu to create a range of designs and products that could be crafted out of the restaurants used bamboo chopsticks for use within their future restaurants. With chopsticks being a one use product before they are discarded, this was a concept we were more than happy to be apart of.
By incorporating more contemporary shapes, such as a chamfered underside, alongside some very fine layers of sanding we were able to produce an extremely smooth and durable surface.
