When Jacada Travel expanded their nature-inspired workspace, they called on Forest & Maker.
When Jacada Travel extended their London headquarters, they knew exactly where to turn for the furnishings. Forest & Maker’s bespoke timber desks and tables are perfectly in keeping with the company’s nature-inspired design ethos, which includes cork floors, leafy plants and an abundance of natural light.
With its biophilic emphasis, Jacada Travel’s workspace is at the forefront of office design – like a growing number of businesses, the team knows just how beneficial it is to bring the outdoors in. Not only are natural materials known to be calming, they also boost our creativity, productivity and cognitive performance.
And of course, we at Forest & Maker are passionate believers in harnessing and protecting nature’s bounty. Every single piece of our sustainable, solid timber furniture is created in collaboration with the countryside, deep in Wiltshire’s forested landscape. Whether you’re working in a skyscraper or city suburb, our handcrafted collections enable everyone to connect with the natural world.
We were proud to create 68 bespoke desks, tables and benches for Jacada Travel, our second project with the business. And unlike homogeneous, mass-produced furniture, every single piece tells a tale. Handcrafted from British-grown ash, the pale desks have a mesmeric grain pattern that varies from tight and consistent, to unique swirls. In respect for the environment, each piece’s individual character is carefully preserved.
To introduce a mix of natural tones and textures, we handcrafted meeting tables and benches from honey-coloured, homegrown Pippy Oak. The showstopper is a 2.5metre meeting table, hewn from one gigantic log. With its distinctive knots and clusters and ‘live’ edge, this is tactile timber furniture, which people instinctively reach out to touch.
Of course, the ‘live’ edge is great for the environment too, because it minimises waste. And, as Jacada Travel knows, sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do. Every piece of ash and oak we use is sourced from sustainably managed, British forests, and each tree is selectively felled. Not only does every desk and table that we create connect people with the natural world, but it helps protect that world for generations to come.
